You won't have tospend another dollar on English
After thousands of dollars in trial and error, we uncovered the hidden structure of English. We turned that structure into a one-hour 'aha' — a new way to learn.
HOW IT BEGAN
Why we built this curriculum
Years of English learning. Tens of thousands of dollars flowing into academies, online courses, apps, and 1-on-1 tutoring. And yet, for many learners, all that's left at the end is the feeling that 'English is just hard.'
Memorize grammar. Memorize vocabulary. Listen to the same lesson dozens of times — and still not be able to form a single honest sentence. We met that same wall in learner after learner, and one thing became clear.
The problem wasn't the learner — it was the method itself. So we took the language apart from scratch. 'Why does this structure even exist?' 'Do we really have to memorize this many rules?' That's where we started analyzing the mechanism of English through a developer's eyes.
After breaking down every sentence we encountered through native-speaker videos and their context, one thing became clear: English runs on a surprisingly small set of structures.
THE DISCOVERY
English only moves through 7 cases
After tearing apart hundreds of grammar-book pages and thousands of examples, I realized English actually runs on a surprisingly small set of structures. Words, slotted into the right positions in the right order, form sentences. We were just learning it the hard way.
7 core cases
Every sentence's skeleton moves through just 7 cases. Understand these, and the rest is pure extension.
111 core logics
will/would, can/could, have + p.p. — every confusing piece of grammar explained by one consistent principle.
Understand, don't memorize
Once you feel why a structure exists, you never forget it. It stops being a rule and becomes instinct.
PHILOSOPHY
You don't need a talent for languages
People with a natural ear for language pick up patterns from repeated sentences, no formal grammar needed. For them, subtitle-free shows and shadowing are enough.
But most of us need a foundational understanding of grammar. The problem is that today's grammar teaching is centered on memorization, not understanding.
So we built a new grammar framework that anyone can understand and use immediately. That's where Smoveth started.
